Birthday Bash
"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Mellie, happy birthday to you! Woohoo!" Oh come on, I'm sixteen. Is this really necessary? I want to go to the studio.
"Melissa,"
"Yes, Mum?" I answered with a smile on my face, hoping when Mum turned to me she'd think I'm having a good time.
"You want to go to the studio again, don't you?" Mum added. My smile dropped.
"Uh, yes." Before Mum could reply, I said "Mum, please. It's so great to see you planned a party for me, and yes, I know I haven't had one since Dad left, but I really want to go the the studio." Tears trickled down Mum's face. "I know, I know. Fine. But guide your guests out first, please." Mum sobbed.
"Alright, come on. Sally, Jaemia, Theo, Mia, it's great to have had you. I'll bring you cake later. Sorry. Bye." I said, shutting the door on the four of them.
"What about me?" Alice said hopping up and down.
"You're coming with me!" I grabbed her by the hand and pushed open the door, and performed one grande jete'. Then we ran on our tip toes to Dance Studio '88 - our dance school. We walked in the door, un-puffed and pumped. "Morning, Melissa, Alice." said Kadie, who was at the reception desk today. "You guys are in Studio 7."
"YES!" we whispered. See, studio 7 is THE best. The biggest, with the best cd player, mirrors, the perfect floor, and upstairs- viewing the beach. "This is the life" Alice said, hauling her bag up the twisted stairs. "Yup." I replied. "Yes, it is." We took our jackets off, and shoes. We then looked like stars, dressed in leotards, we glimmered in the sunlight that poured through the windows. "Oh my gosh, I love your leotard Alice!"
"Thanks, Mum got it for me."
"Oh, of course, who would have guessed. Little Principles daughter"
"Teacher's pet!" we giggled and squealed.
"Okay," I said to Alice tieing the ribbons on my shoe. "Do you want to perform a solo first?"
"No, you can." She said.
"Alright then" I put my tape labelled Melissa Smith Dirty Bit - Jazz 2011 in and got into postition.
It was after the song I realized, why I loved dance so much. The music, the applaud, the fun, the magic. I was remembering back when I was 3, when I'd first started dancing. "Mel, Mellie, Melissa!" Alice said waving my tape in my face. "Uh, yes?" I said.
"My turn." she said, putting in her tape labelled Alice Springs Voodoo Child - Jazz 2011.

6 hours lateer, we'd both shown each other our 9 solos. "I better go," I said. "Mum will want me to bring everyone cake" I cried and smiled, hugging Alice, my best friend.
"Yeah, she said, crying too, "I love ya babe, seeya soon." Then I grabbed my jacket and shoes, and raced down the twisted stairs and out the door.

DAD?!?
When I got home, I opened the door and shouted at the top of my lungs "MUM! Where's the cake?" I said. I then closed the door slipped my shoes off, and hung my jacket up on the hat stand. I had heard no reply yet, I started to wonder where she could be. I looked everywhere downstairs- the kitchen, the lounge room, the dining room, the pet's room [we have a budgerigar, puppy and fish, they are in the pets room) and in the laundry. I climbed up the stairs, and looked upstairs. First in our other lounge, on the balcony, in my room, in the laundry chute room, in the study, and finally in our cupboard. One place was left to look, I opened Mum's door slowly and saw, wll, you don't want to know what I saw. But I saw my Mum and my, Dad? I widened the door. "MUM!" I screamed. She stood up and said;
"Haven't you heard of knocking?"
"Yes, yes I have, but, but, wh-" As soon as I started to say soon, Mum picked the man up by his hand and said "Mellie, this is your Dad." I stood there horrified, in terror. I was so shocked, that I fainted. Everything swirled into one image, a blur.

I woke up the next day, and looked at my surroundings. "Where am I?" I whispered, loud enough for a nurse to hear, she walked over and patted my head. Her skin was so smooth, it was like baby's skin. "It's alright, Melissa. You fainted, your parentss brought you to hospital last night. Look, here they are."
"Hello." My Mum talked to the nurse.
"It's nothing major, she might just need an icepack on her head for about half an hour or so. She's good to go."
"Okay," My Mum whispered, "Thanks." Meanwhile my 'Dad' had come over to see me.
"Hey, Mellie! I'm your Dad!"
"Hey, that's Melissa to you." I said.
"Okay, Melissa. I know it might be a bit weird for you knowing that when you were little, your dad got drunk, and was kicked our, and you hadn't seen him since. And I know it might be weirder for you to see him years later, back with his Mum, kissing. I know it's a bit weird but I'm here bto stay, now come on, the nuirse said you can go home." I stood up off the bed and blinked, checking that this was real. Oh gosh, it was! I pinched my shoulder, still real. I sighed, then walked to my Mum and, well, Dad.
