Sky fastened Paint's girth, the saddle was already warm from the Autumn sun, the weather was perfect for a ride with friends. Paint whinnied as Sky tightened his bit before climbing into the saddle, adjusting her seating. Paint was 14 hands high, a purebred Appaloosa. His coat was a gleaming jet black, his hind a chalky white with a scattering of markings, he was Sky's dream horse come true. He loved clearing jumps and Cross Country events, which he was able to always come at least 3rd. Sky was ecstatic when her father Joe fulfilled his promise to some day, purchase a horse for her, a horse for keeps. She had always dreamt of galloping over hills and over dale, the sun in her face, the wind her hair, the sound of her horses shiny hooves pounding against the soft grass. Finally, this was a reality, and she was able to join her fellow horse crazy pals, Tania and Adrienne. Tania had a blue-ribbon winning Arabian, Shine with a bay coat. He was gorgeous, agile and a fierce competitor just like Tania, but Sky thought Paint was just as special in her eyes. Adrienne on the other hand had a Palomino mare called Paris, who was definently not interested in show jumping, cross country or winning Blue Ribbons, and she preferred quiet rides on the beach or on the trail through the forest. Tania was always excited about her latest winning thanks to Shine and would always rub it in Adrienne and Sky's faces. Adrienne didn't care, while Sky would always have a feeling of jealousy in the pit of her stomach. Sky wished that Paint was able to bring home the blue ribbon, showing Tania that a purebred was just as good as a sporty and agile Arabian. If only she could train Paint well enough to enter and even win the state's most prestigious Show Jumping and Dressage competition, the Riding High at Redbank.
