11. Tribal Meeting
A few days later Embry and I found ourselves at a tribal meeting at Sam and Emily’s house. Sam and Emily’s kitchen was crowed, more crowded than I’d ever seen it before – then again there we’re more wolves now and this time Billy, Old Quil and Sue were here as well and numerous imprintee other than me. Embry and I had just told them all what had happened the day before with Alice and the negotiations to work out what to do next we’re not going very well at all and all they’d agreed on was to work alongside the Cullen’s again and keep Charlie safe, but what to do about Edward was far from decided all that they’d agreed on, on that topic was it was a good idea that we all yell about it.
‘If he wants to die, I’ll –’ Sam began.
‘Sam, you guys and the Cullen’s want him dead he doesn’t want himself dead’ I interrupted.
‘Well I’m still –’ Sam continued without taking into consideration what I had just said.
‘SAM! If anyone kills him, it’s going to be the Volturi’ I shouted back at him and once again he refused to listen to what I had just said; again.
‘No, if that parasite breaks the treaty we will, not some bunch of Italian parasites’ Paul replied.
‘Oh come on’ Seth began ‘He hasn’t technically broken the treaty.’
‘SETH HE WANTS THE GIRL I LOVE DEAD, THAT’S ENOUGH TO BREAK THE TREATY IN MY OPINION!’ Embry snarled and then he started shaking and he couldn’t seem to calm himself down. I’d never seen Embry lose it and I didn’t like it at all. Sam grabbed Embry by the upper arm and dragged him outside; they hadn’t been outside for a minute when there was a huge ripping sound that echoed through the house, then Sam shouted and ordered Embry to go for a walk and come back when he’s calmed down and could talk about the parasite without blowing up that badly and then he suggested, he go get some new cloths first. Sam came back into the house rubbing his arms and trying to calm himself down which he pulled off with extreme ease.
‘You know I never thought I’d see Embry lose it like that, he’s usually the calmest’ Seth said.
‘Well I think he’s no longer going to be the calmest anymore. Seth I’d say you’re the calmest now and Paul I don’t think you’re the most easiest angered anymore – I’d say that’s Embry now. And actually I can’t really blame him; he’s scared he’s going to lose Bella like that.’ Quil indicated by clicking his fingers. ‘Not to mention I seem to be the only one to notice!’
‘Quil, I’ve noticed as well’ I added.
‘Okay apart from me and Bella, no one has noticed.’
All the other wolves looked at each other pretty sadly as the worked out that Quil really did have a point and that Embry really had changed since he imprinted and he was more scared than anyone of the other wolves that had imprinted put together and it had taken the one that had imprinted on a three year old to work it out and none of the other three that had imprinted had noticed.
‘I think we all owe Embry an apology for the way we’ve been treating him for the last few days’ Jared decided.
‘I’m going to make that an order.’ Sam ordered and all the wolves nodded ‘Except you Quil I think you’ve been the nicest to him and have noticed, you don’t owe anyone an apology we owe you one as well.’
‘I don’t want one, I just wanted to knock some sense into the rest of you and that’s what I’ve done and that’s all I wanted to do.’
‘Well since that’s cleared up. Sam are you okay?’ Paul asked.
‘I’ll be okay, and like I said Embry just has to calm down’ Sam answered.
‘What’s this about Embry having to calm down?’ I heard Jake say and I looked up to see him entering the kitchen.
‘He got mad Jake; why else do you think we want him to calm down?’ I asked him.
‘Sheesh Bella I only asked; has this got anything to do with this meeting you called Sam?’
‘What the do you think Jacob?! Where’s Leah, I thought I ordered you to go find her?’ Sam shouted back at Jake.
‘I found her, but she didn’t see the point in coming alright.’
‘No not alright Jacob, that’s not alright at all. Go back out there and get her to come, drag her if you have to!’
‘No way, not till I find out what’s going on here first!’
‘Not much, all we’ve decided on is that everyone wants that parasite dead…including the Cullen’s’ Jared answered.
‘Can’t we kill them as well?’
‘You go tell Embry that Jake, see what he says…Alice was the one who warned us and Bella could be dead by now if it wasn’t for her and I’m sure you don’t want Bella dead?’ Seth replied annoyed.
‘Well can’t we get her to see what’s going to happen next?’ Jake asked.
‘And that’s our problem Jake, she can’t see past the wolves and that’s because their such a huge part of my life now’ I answered.
‘Oh wow she can’t see past us, how upsetting and may I ask why’s that?’ Jake said sarcastically.
‘Because she was never a wolf Jake, she can only see the futures of what she is or what she has been!’ I shouted.
‘She should be happy she was never a wolf, they don’t have to deal with this horrible life.’
‘And here we go again, your blaming everything on me again. You only hate this life because Embry imprinted on me and you hate it, you hate that he can be happy and you can’t…why can’t you just let him be happy!’
‘Because he never told me he imprinted on you!’
‘And why do you think he didn’t Jake?...’
‘Well I do, because as much as he loved Bella, he also didn’t want to lose his best friend.’
Jake didn’t look up at Embry and answer him ‘You still lost your best friend, because you helped to break his heart again and I still can’t believe I lost two of my best friends because of this stupid life I’m living and once again I can blame the Cullen’s because if it wasn’t them we wouldn’t be having this conversation and I’d most likely be the one engaged to Bella.’
Embry went to lunge out at him but Paul and Seth grabbed him and pulled him back, but he was still tugging at their grip.
‘Embry, its okay he didn’t mean its okay. You know it was always you, if our life had worked out to not have the wolves in it; it would still be you because you’re perfect absolutely perfect and I wouldn’t be able to love anyone else because it would’ve always been you and will always be you and I would’ve worked that out pretty quickly because of that way you’ve always smiled at me; that loving smile ever since we were kids, the smile that you only ever gave me and no one else.’ I found myself holding his face forcing him to focus on me; even though he was struggling he was still trying to grip onto some sense of this form by trying to focus on me and finally he stopped struggling and he didn’t take his eyes off me. Paul and Seth let go of him and his arms instantly wrapped around me and hugged me. He rested his head on mine as I rested my head on his chest.
‘Are you going to be okay?’ I asked.
‘I’m going to be just fine’ Embry answered.
‘He might be, but I won’t be.’
Now Jake had done it and Embry let go of me and lunged at Jake before Paul and Seth could grab get hold of him again; but thankfully for Jake’s sake Embry didn’t phase.
‘Don’t play these games with me. I know you’re pissed off at me and Bella, but we have more things to worry about. That parasite wants Bella dead and we could really use your co-operation to help protect her!’
‘Like I’m going to help you!’
‘Then don’t do it for me, do it for Bella…if you love her as much as you say I think I already know your answer.’
‘What difference does it make if I love her or not, but I will protect her if it’s the last thing I can do before I lose her to you.’
‘Jake you should be happy for her!’ Embry growled.
‘I can’t be!’
‘WELL TRY OR I WILL PERSONALLY RIP YOUR HEAD OFF!’
‘Embry that’s enough’ Sam ordered.
Embry let go of Jake hesitantly, but then grabbed him again and shoved him back into the ground.
‘And stay away from Bella unless you’re willing to protect her.’
‘You can’t tell me to stay away from my best friend’
‘Trust me I can and trust me I will enforce it if I have to!’
‘BOTH OF YOU CUT IT OUT NOW!’ Sam yelled ‘WE HAVE NO TIME FOR THE TWO OF YOU TO ARGUE OVER BELLA, WHEN WE ARE TRYING TO WORK OUT HOW TO KEEP HER SAFE!’
They both shut up after that and left the topic alone.
‘So what can we do Bella, what has Alice said?’
‘Well honestly’ I began to answer ‘we can’t do anything, because like I said Alice can’t see anything more into my future because of the wolves.’
‘Okay so what you’re saying Bella is that we’re sitting ducks?’ Quil asked.
‘Yes that’s exactly what we are; unless Alice magical starts seeing the wolves in the next few days.’
‘Okay there’s not much more we can do here then’ Sam said.
‘What are we going to do then huh Sam?’ Quil asked
‘Easy run extra patrols.’
‘We should’ve guessed shouldn’t have we?’ Paul asked.
All the wolves except Embry, Sam and Quil nodded in agreement.
‘Go now and Jacob you can get Leah to come see me or you’ll be running triple patrols.’
‘Oh come on’ Jake complained.
‘At the moment your running triple patrols, find Leah and get her to come here and I might consider that you can just run the extra patrols along with everyone else.’
‘Fine’ Jake groaned and left.
‘Everyone else go now.’
All the other wolves got up and left leaving just Sam, Emily, Embry and myself.
‘I’m sorry for what happened’ Embry said.
‘Embry its okay, Jake was just being an idiot’ Emily replied sympathetically.
‘Thanks Em.’
