Rain pelted heavily down from the sky, making the noise that rain usually makes; the soothing sounds of water falling onto you roof... and off your roof and onto the ground. Also the skidding of cars driving way too fast down the road near you. Maybe even the splashing off people walking in puddles. Naturally, if you like the cold then you like the rain. And I like both of them. But I’m not fussed on hail, it’s too noisy, even though I love watching it fall magically out of the sky. If I ever get to see snow... Now that would be magical... “Taylor!” My mother’s voice sliced through my rain summary. I sigh, I was up to snow and I really wanted to s- “TAYLOR!” The tone of her voice means this is something important. I slide off my bed and walk to the kitchen. “Yes, mummy?” I say sweetly, as if I was an angelic child; which at this point in time I was close to being one. “Ah, finally!” mum says, nodding her head in satisfaction, “time to go grocery shopping.”
“In the rain?” I say sadly, looking out the kitchen window at the pouring rain. I may like rain but I don’t really like getting wet. She laughed. “Yes, in the rain.” I sigh and run back to my room. Luckily, I had enough money to buy a book from the cute, little book shop near the grocery store. With my purse in one hand and my rain coat in the other, I set off to the car.

The car was extremely warm, and comforting. The thing I like about the cold was that it was easy to get warm, and warmth was a comforting feeling. It made me feel safe, and loved... Sadly, the drive didn’t take very long. I got out of the car and splashed into a huge puddle. I laughed and skipped after mum into the shopping centre. Whilst mum walked slowly and took her time carefully picking out each item, I skipped around the shop grabbing what I needed and then skipping back to the trolley and dumping the contents in. Of course mum didn’t really care. I’m a good child, I don’t sneak very many - if any - bad things into the trolley.
“Mamma,” I whine. “Can I go buy a book, or two?”
“Sure, but you’re paying for it, missy moo,” she says, smiling. “Yay! Thanks mum,” I say happily before running to the book store. The run there took about a minute or so, and soon I’m walking into the warm book store. I shut the door behind me and hand my rain coat on the hanger. I’m a regular customer so Ray, the shop owner, doesn’t mind. “Hello Taylor,” Ray greets me warmly. “We got a book in that you will love.” He smiles warmly and guides me to the ‘staff only’ section of the store. I always love walking into this room. I look around in awe at all the amazing books. Ray stops and picks up a thick book. “This one,” he says. “It’s called, uh, um...” I giggle quietly. “I think it’s called...” I tilt my head and look at the tiny spine label. “No idea.” We both laugh. “I’ll go look at the list then,” he says. And with that we walk out of the amazing ‘staff only’ room.

After about ten minutes of looking, Ray found the title of the book. Turns out it was called, The Water Cycle, but it wasn’t actually about the water cycle. “Thanks for going to all that trouble, Ray,” I thank him. “It’s okay, Taylor, honey,” he mumbles. I take the money for the book out of my purse, but he stops me. “No, honey,” he says sternly, “this book is on me.” I tilt my head slightly and look at him. “Uh, why?” I say, genuinely puzzled. “Because you’re birthday is coming up, silly!” Ray says, and starts laughing. I laugh too. I almost forgot my birthday was in two weeks. “Stupid me,” I mutter as I grab the book. “Thanks Ray, I really appreciate it.” He smiles at me, “No problem.” And with that I wave good-bye to him, grab my rain coat and head out of my favorite store.
