'Are you trying out or not?' Ginny Weasley asked Ron Weasley.
'Not in this lifetime.' her brother shuddered
Ginny shrugged 'I dont know, it sounds like fun to me.'
'For you maybe, for me it's torture.' Ron said.
'What are you two talking about?' Harry Potter asked, joining them in the Great Hall and sitting down next to Ginny.
'Well,' Ginny began 'Hogwarts has actually decided to put on a show.'
'We haven't done it since the disaster with the Fountain of Fair Fortune a few centuries ago.' Ron commented, not looking up from his porridge.
Harry's eyes widened for a moment, and once he was capable of speaking, he said 'How do you know?' It wasn't the kind of fact Ron was likely to tell them about, let alone be bothered knowing.
'She told me.' Ron replied wistfully, and Harry at once knew he was talking about Hermione Granger, Harry's other best friend besides Ron and Ron's girlfriend. Ron missed her terribly, and Harry speculated that the more times Ron visited Hermione at Bloomsmary, the more he missed her. 'We were studying in the library, and she mentioned it to me. She said that it's written in Hogwarts, A History and Tales of Beedle The Bard.'
'When did she tell you?' Harry asked
'Ages ago, before she left...' Ron stood up and began walking to the door.
'Ron wait!' Harry exclaimed
'It's nothing.' Ron said, turning back to look at Harry. 'I'm fine. Just going to... um...'
'Ron you don't have to make excuses. It's fine. We wont talk about Hermione.' Harry said
'It's not that I dont want to talk about Hermione, it's just... I miss her... loads.' Ron said quietly, sitting down.
Harry felt so sorry for Ron, and upset that he couldn't do much about it. Words couldn't explain how much Ron missed Hermione. Harry looked over at Ginny, noticing she hadn't been taking part in the conversation. She was speaking with Luna, who had come over to their table.
'... yeah, I'm hoping to get a part in the show.' Ginny was saying
'I might see if I could help out with costumes. We have to make sure that they dont have any Flittering Munchbeetles in them.' Noticing the strange looks she was recieving from everyone, including Ron, who had finally looked up from his porridge, she clarified for them what Flittering Munchbeetles were. 'They are purple, with giant turquoise patterns on them--stripy ones are rare-- and they love to live in fabric. That's why during the holidays I always spray my robes with a special tonic. Daddy prepares it for me.'
Ron chuckled slightly, but no one else responded. They were all staring at Luna.
'So they just live in your clothes?' Harry asked
'Yes, and they damage the fabric. If you want I can get some spray for you.' Luna offered
'No thanks, I'm fine.' Harry said
'I really think you should, Flittering Munchbeetles love smelly clothes.' and she walked off
Harry was left to figure out what she meant. 'My clothes are smelly...?'
'Ah, they're fine mate.' Ron said, clapping Harry on the back. Then he stood back and watched Harry as though examining him. Then he burst out laughing.
Then he, Harry and Ginny sat down once more and continued the discussion about the performance, until Harry and Ginny announced they had to go to the library.

The good thing about the comment from Luna, Harry thought, was that it helped cheer Ron up, even for a moment.


Harry and Ginny returned to the common room from the library with smug looks on their faces. Ron put down Hogwarts, A History and looked at them. They were standing awfully close, their shoulders squezed together, as though they were hiding something. Ron strained his neck to try to see what was behind them, but before he could make out anything, he heard a voice call out
'Are you, Ronald Bilius Weasley, reading Hogwarts, A History?!' a muffled voice called out.
Harry and Ginny knew their cover was blown. Ron knew what happened. The beautiful voice gave it away. Harry and Ginny moved aside, and though Ron knew what was behind them, his blue eyes widened and his face lit up as if it were Christmas.
In front of him stood Hermione Granger.

Ron tried to breathe, but he found that it was impossible. He couldn't believe his eyes. Bloomsmary didn't allow students to leave the schoolgrounds unless they were going to Applewood Woods for horse riding or something. Was Hermione possibly breaking the rules? Ron rubbed his eyes and blinked a few times, wondering if it was some sort of illusion. But it was all real. The bushy brown hair, the fair skin, the formerly large front teeth, the chocolate brown eyes. It was all real. The most beautiful girl he had ever laid eyes on (much prettier than FleurDelacour, though he knew Hermione would laugh if he ever told her), was standing right in front of him. He felt as though he hadn't seen her in a century, but really the last time he saw her was three weeks ago.
'Hermione,' he managed to make out
Hermione gave a wide grin, and leapt forward to hug him. Ron immediatly snapped out of his daze and put his arms around her to keep her from falling. He gave her a quick kiss on the forehead and she stood back as if taking in the sight. Ron did the same.
'So, is that Hogwarts, A History?'
Ron grinned and said 'So what if it is?'
Hermione gaped and said 'I dont  believe it. I just dont believe it.[/i]'
'You've got a bad influence on me.' Ron told her
'I wouldn't say it's bad. You're actually reading!' she beamed
Ron laughed and picked her up, spinning her around in the air. The minute he put her down, he gave her a huge kiss.
'What are you doing here?'
'Oh, I really missed Hogwarts, and you guys of course, ever since I left. But I knew I couldn't just leave Bloomsmary because of that. But then I noticed that Bloomsmary work was rather easy for me, easier than Hogwarts stuff, and rather boring. Then, you guys came, and I realised how much I missed doing magic. I dont need Trelawney to tell me that, in my future, I can only see me doing magic. Nothing muggle.'
'So...' Ron began, trying not to get his hopes up, in case what he was thinking was wrong. 'How long are you going to be here for?'
Hermione gave a huge grin and gave Ron a kiss. 'I'm staying.' she replied.

Ron awoke next morning from the rain that was pounding on the open window. Unbelievably, no one else had woken up to it. For a moment, Ron wondered why, but then he realised that he was still excited from Hermione's announcement. She was staying! She was back where she belonged - with him. He had trouble getting to sleep because he was so excited, and for the first time ever, had woken up before anyone in his dormitory because he was still jumpy.

Ron got up and walked over to the window to close it. It was rather cold; winter was on the way. Before he did close it, he looked out of it at the beautiful Hogwarts grounds. He noticed something yellow moving out there. Ron squinted and realised it was someone dancing. Who could ever wake up this early? he thought. Then it hit him - Hermione. He knew that bushy brown hair anywhere. But why was she out there, dancing in the pouring rain? Had she gone mental? It was freezing, and she was wearing a yellow dress.

Ron quickly closed the window and ran back to his bag. He got out a few clothes and threw them on. Then he left the dorm quietly, exited Gryffindor Tower and went to find Hermione. Peeves had stopped him momentarily, and yelled out 'What are you doing up at this hour?' but Ron notified him that the Bloody Baron also enjoyed floating around the school in the morning, which made Peeves quiet.

It was absolutely pouring when Ron got outside. Ron didn't care - after all, Hermione was out here, why shouldn't he be then? He ran through the feild and into the area with many trees, where Ron had seen her. He stood behind a tree and watched her dancing in the clearing. She was doing all these twirls and jumps. Ron never knew she could dance like that, and could ignore the pouring rain and strong wind. Ron watched her spinning around and around and he felt himself getting dizzy watching her. Suddenly she snapped her eyes opened and, spotting Ron, she gasped and fell down.
'Ronald!' she exclaimed looking up.
'Very graceful,' Ron commented, holding out his hand to help her up. Hermione rolled her eyes and his remark, but took his hand and got up. 'What are you doing anyway? It's pouring in case you haven't noticed.'
'Oh, I noticed.' Hermione said 'That's the reason I came out. I love the rain. When I was little, before I found out I was witch, I used to go outside during the rain, and I'd dance. It sort of helped get rid of all my worries.'
'What are you worried about?' Ron asked, very concerned
'I'm auditioning today. For the show.' Hermione explained
'Ah. You actually want to get in?' Ron asked
'Yes, actually I do.' Hermione said
'Why?' Ron asked. To him, performing on stage sounded quite scary.
'Because it sounds like fun!' Hermione exclaimed, the added 'For me.'
Ron laughed. She knew that it sounded terrible for him. 'So, do you wanna dance?'
Hermione's eyes widend, and her mouth opened and formed a perfect 'o'. 'Are you serious?'
'Sure. You said you're worried, and you feel better when you dance, and it would be amazingly romantic for us to dance in the rain, wouldn't it?' Ron grinned. Hermione giggled and turned faintly pink.
'Yeah, it would wouldn't it?' and Hermione took his hand gently.
'What was that tune you were humming?' Ron asked, swaying slowly
'Oh, nothing.' Hermione shrugged, but she began humming it once more.
'Any lyrics?' Ron asked looking down at her.
'Yeah,' Hermione said, blushing. Ron had never heard her sing.
'Go ahead.' Ron encouraged her 'How come Bloomsmary heard you sing, and Hogwarts is gonna hear you sing today, yet you wont sing for me?' Ron looked at her with hurt in his eyes, knowing Hermione cant bear to see that.
Hermione knew what he was doing, but still began singing. They began moving in time to the beat, back and forth, back and forth, spinning around and around. Once Ron remembered the song, he began singing along too. For a moment, he and Hermione thought he had gone crazy, but then Ron shrugged and said 'Hey-it's a catchy song!'
Hermione laughed and they kept singing and dancing.
At the end of the song, Ron stopped dancing and looked Hermione straight in the eye. 'You are getting the lead. I'm serious.'
'What?'
'You're amazing. You've got an unbelievable voice, and you aren't a bad dancer either. Flitwick's not going to hear anyone else after you sing.' Ron insisted
Hermione laughed and said 'Yeah right.'
'Seriously!' Ron exclaimed and Hermione just laughed harder. Ron lifted their entwined hands up and spun Hermione around, making both of them laugh.
'Gosh I missed you so much.' Hermione said softly, letting Ron hold her.
'Me too. I'm really glad you're back.' Ron replied
'HERMIONE!' Harry's voice called out, and Ron and Hermione realised he was running over to them.
'What is it Harry?' Hermione asked
'You have to go to the auditions now. Ginny's a nervous wreck. She's calling for you. She's in the Great Hall.'
'Omigosh!' Hermione exclaimed. 'I'm late!!!' and ran off.
Harry glanced over at Ron. 'I interupted something, didn't I?' Harry asked
Ron looked back at Harry, and shrugged him shoulders. 'Yeah.' He admitted. 'But it's OK. Now, we have all the time in the world.'

The Great Hall was rather crowded. Ginny felt extremely nervous. She was going for the role of the lead girls best friend - Faith. She sounded just like the kind of girl Ginny is, so Ginny thought the part would be perfect for her. She glanced over at Hermione in time to catch her swallowing very hard. She was going for the role of an insturctor called Sophie. Typical Hermione to go for a role of a teacher, Ginny giggled silently
'Alright everyone!' Professor Flitwick clapped his hands together. 'Thankyou for coming for the auditions for our show - Talent Galore. Before we begin, I'll give you a very brief run down of the story. Our female lead is the role of Kim, a shy girl who is a fantastic singer. She comes to a special school called Shine Star Shine, where a very popular boy called Ralph hears her sing and decides to do a duet with her for the school's talent show. Now, there are other roles too, and you should all know about them. I'll give you a dialogue for your character before you audition, and then ask you to sing a line from a song. Now, those wishing to audition for the director of the school - Sophie - come forward.'
Hermione gulped once more, then made her way up to Flitwick. Flitwick waves his wand and a sheet of paper appeared in front of all the people who were auditioning for Sophie.
Hermione was on 6th, and when it was her turn, she walked up on to the stage in a way she would if someone cast a Jelly Leg jinx on her. She did a bit of dialogue, then took a deep breath and sang a few lines of 'My School, My Kingdom'. She sighed and walked down into the audience, waiting for Ginny's turn.

Ginny was excellent. Hermione thought she had a very strong voice and she sounded good. Ginny had a very good chance of getting her desired role.
'Nice job!' Hermione exclaimed
'You were amazing!' Ginny insisted
'Well done everyone!' Flitwick called out. 'The names of the cast will be put up in the common rooms today at 4 o'clock, and at 4:30 I'd like them to join me here in the Great Hall once more so they can get their scripts and songs. Now good job everyone!'


Ginny and Hermione were nervous wrecks by 4 o'clock. They ran into the common room, and saw Harry and Ron crowding around the notice board, along with other Gryffindors. Harry turned around and saw Ginny.
'Ginny! You're in! You've got the role of Flora!'
'Is that the enemy of Kim?' Ginny asked, running over to see.
'Yep!' Harry said laughing, not sure whether Ginny liked that or not. It seemed like she did though.
Hermione walked over slowly to Ron. 'See? I'm not in it at all! And you said I'd get the lead.' Hermione shook her head.
'Who said you didn't get in?' Ron grinned, his eyes were very wide. Hermione gasped and her eyes grew wide too, though not quite as wide as Ron's.
'I got in?' she whispered
Ron put both his arms on her shoulders, and said 'Close your eyes.' Hermione did so, and felt herself being turned around to face the notice board.
'Open your eyes,' he whispered in her ear.
Hermione opened them and looked at the sheet of paper in front of her.
'Well? Are you in?' Ginny asked
'Yeah...' Hermione managed to say
'So who are you?' Ginny asked
'Kim...' Hermione answered, not taking her eyes off the board.
'In other words, the lead!' Ron said proudly.
