I am new here at Georgia’s Saint High School and today is my first day. It is really embarrassing coming here at the end of the year as I won’t get to meet the whole class. There are two weeks of school left and I have no friends here. A bunch of bullies are picking on me just because I have two plaits in my hair. I never knew. My friends at my old school thought they were cute.

S T O R Y

1 A terrible start

As I walk in everyone is staring at me because of my two plaits. Some girls in the corner are giggling a whispering to each other. Other girls just stare. Boys look away. But I see one boy staring at me and scanning me. He see’s me looking at him and quickly looks away. I smile, but only the corners of my mouth are turned. I dump my books on a desk and sit down in an empty area. Surprisingly I am the first on the roll. "Good Morning Anna.", the teacher calls out happily waiting to hear my voice. I start to sweat. "What do I say, what do I say", I hear myself think. I fall into tears and think how stupid I should feel.

2 A new friend

After all that is sussed out it is lunch. I decide to sit on my own. The boy that was staring at me walked over. "May I join?” he asked politely. I just nod and point at where he can sit. "What's your n-", I mumble but he cut's me off. "Jason, your Anna right?” I nod slowly with a grin forming. I grab out my chocolate bar and break some off. I offer him a bit and he takes it and slowly chews it. "Mmmmmm", I hear him hum. The bell rings and we walk off together. We got to a place where it is empty and peaceful. I play with stick and he uses leaves and sticks to carve out a heart. He passes it to me and I put it in my little bag. "You have been quiet. I haven't heard you speak once.” he wondered. I stand up. "I did once.” I say quietly.

3 The big diorama

He stands up too, just before the bell rings. “Follow me.”, he says and I follow trying not to knock the little kids down. We go into class and about 7/25 kids are in the classroom already working on their art project. The teacher calls me over. “Anna, we are doing our art project, it is due tomorrow so could you help maybe Jason? He is running a bit slow. But if no, then you can go help Tiff-“, but I cut her off. “I’ll stick to Jason.” And then the teacher replied “You’re not a picky girl, you mum said you were.” with a smile on her face. I walk off and look for where Jason sits. I see him sitting down with his huge diorama. No wonder it will take him so long. I walk over. “I have to help you.” I sigh of sarcasm. He starts giggling. He shows me what to start with.

4 The green little fuzzy ball

He shows me where to get all the materials so, I go to the craft box in the middle of the room and find a fuzzy green ball, I bring it back to him. I pass it to him. “Ah, this is what I need to finish The Masterpiece.” he grins and sticks it on. He brings it to the teacher. I follow behind. “Fantastical!” the teacher says. You two can have free time!

5 Free time

We go back and sit down. Jason looks at me with his bright blue eyes. I just play with my little pen and change colours to make a rainbow. I get a piece of paper and make this rainbow looking thing that has dots. Jason is drawing a car. He draws two people. “Anna, this is you with the tiara and this is me with the cap.” he shows me and I take a look. “Wow, my twin.” I say giggling. He smiles. He writes something like ‘nosaJ evoL, dneirf doog a oT’. He passes it to me. I think to myself ‘Oh, To a good friend, Love Jason’. I hug it and fold it and make a note ‘Reminder: Give Jason Phone Number’. He gets a glimpse of what I am writing. “Can’t wait.” he mouths out.

6 Phone numbers

It is lunch again and just before I leave the classroom I quickly scribble down my phone number. Call me. It says on the side. “Call me this afternoon.” I whisper. “5:00 would be a good time.” I whisper again. He nods and writes down his phone number too. “Just incase.” he mumbled. We get out lunch and sit down.

7 Another girl

As I sit down a girl gives me a dirty look. “What’s up with that girl?” I point out, Jason looks. And gives me a confused look. When he looks away the same girl is giving me a dirtier look. I just frown. “Who is that girl over there?” I point to show him. He looks. “Oh, she’s Serena.” he says and then quickly asks “Why?” and I look at him. “Oh, no reason.” I say unsurely.

8 What can happen in a short amount of time

“Won’t be a second.” Jason says going to the boys toilet. Once he is gone Serena comes over. “No flirting with my boyfriend okay?” she says in a dark voice. I just stare. “I am going to the prom with him. So don’t bother asking. I already have.” she says making sure I hear her nice and clear. I think to myself ‘There’s a prom?’. She walks away looking at me the whole time.

9 The weirdest thing

Jason comes back. “I have been willing to ask you something. You may not know but there is a prom coming up and I wan-“ he starts to say but I cut him off “And want to tell me that you are already going with Serena?” with a frown on my face. “What? NO!” he says with a confused look. “What gave you that idea? he says and has a sad face. “So you don’t what to go with me?” he says looking away. Almost as if he is crying.

10 The big mouth of mine

I almost faint from what he just said. I huddle myself looking down crying. I go sit in the corner of the area and look out. “Stupid, stupid stupid. That big mouth of mine. I ruined a perfect date.” I say. “Haha loser.” I hear in the background. It was Serena.

11 Uhhh

I am at home on my bed. It is 4:56 and I am just finishing my card. It says. ‘Danger. Now Entering the Dumb Room’. I hang it on my door. The next thing that happens is the door bell rings. I open the door. Oh snap. “Go away. You don’t need me.” I say, Jason pushes the door open.

12 The misunderstanding

“Why did you think I was going to the prom with Serena? We are just friends.” He says all confused. “But so are we right?” I say without knowing what to say next. “I guess. But if you want to, we can be more than just friends. If it’s not to soon.” he says staring into my eyes. “But Serena came over and said you two were together and that she was going with you to the prom.” I say frowning. “Oh I hate her now.” Jason says hugging me. It feels wonderful.

13 The thought

“Come in.” I say and offer him a biscuit. I show him my room. “Yeah, yeah as if.” he says pulling off the sign. I show him my dresses. “Which one should I wear to the prom?” I ask. “This one.” Jason says pulling out a sparkling blue one. “I was thinking about that one...” I say holding it up. Pick you up Friday at 7pm. I smile as he leaves my house.

14 Can I mum?

Mum comes home. “Mum, can I go to the prom? A boy asked me out? Please? His name is Jason?” I plead. “Really a boyfriend already on your first day?” mum says and I nod. I run upstairs and get the dress I am wearing. She nods and I hug her.

15 The night

My mum finishes doing my hair just as the door bell rings. I open the door. “You look splendid.” Jason comments and I smile. Once we are there, there are a couple people already here. We see Serena, She can’t see me but she can see Jason. She says a flirty hello by waving and blows him an air kiss. Once the people in front enter she see’s me and frowns with a dirty look on her face. Once we enter she pulls Jason off me.

16 I thought we were...

Serena and Jason walk off into the distance. I follow and see what is happening. Jason doesn’t try to pull away. I watch every second until I can’t see anymore. I run away and Jason see’s me. “Leave me alone.” I say pushing him back. “I never want to see you again.” I say and run away. One of my clips fall of, he picks it up and puts it in his pocket.

17 Gahh I thought I told you

The next morning the door bell rings. “Don’t answer it.” I tell mum but she ignores me. I run to my room and lock it. I start crying into my pillow. “Hello?” Jason says. “LEAVE ME ALONE!!!” I scream. “But...” Jason replied. “Don’t you get it? Go AWAY” I told him.

18 Well okay then

Jason leaves and puts a note beside my clip on the table next to my room. It says ‘I really thought we had something but I guess I was wrong. I didn’t mean to hurt you but if you take me as hurting you, well I am not against it.’ And I look at the note a second time. “Damn” I think to myself.

19 Oh, so now you do

I ring Jason first thing in the morning. “Hello?” Jason picks up. “It’s me Anna.” I say hoping this will turn out okay. “Oh, it’s you.” he says and I can tell he isn’t happy because of the tone in his voice. “Where are you?” I gulp. “Serena’s. Why?” he replies. I just think for a second then I hang up and flop onto my bed.

20 School problems

I go to school and try to ignore Jason. I just can't stop thinking about having 'feelings' for him. I enter class, Serena and Jason sitting side by side. I moan and go sit at my desk that is luckily not next to his. I pull a tongue at him and he pulls one back. I draw a picture and show it to him. He goes up to the teacher and I hear him mumble this "Mrs Wadir, Anna is being mean to me. She is drawing bad pictures of me and is poking tongues at me." Oh he did it big time.

21 No friends for lunch

I sit down at the same spot and stare. Serena and Jason and flirting and all that. I smirk at how they are trying to make me 'jealous'. No one is sitting with me so I decide to do my own things. I go to the library and read a book called 'Boyfriends can be totally understandable'. I decided to borrow it and read it in my free time. I learn a lot of things.

22 The great book

I am still reading the same book. And it is very interesting. It is a girl that is new and has a boy as a friend. But then the boy does the wrong move and looses her. "There is something familiar about this book." I say wondering. It's like I have been through this before.
